Where ore destroys steel by the tonne.

Mining is the most demanding wear environment on earth — high-stress abrasion, repeated impact, and slurry erosion all working at once, around the clock. Syncore's hardfacing portfolio is built around the failure modes that define a mining maintenance budget.

[ 01 / The cycle ]

From pit to product, every stage wears.

Each step in the mining cycle has its own dominant wear mechanism — and a Syncore wire engineered to match.

// STAGE 01

Extraction

Bucket lips, GET, dipper teeth, drag-line buckets. Rock-on-metal contact at the dig face under heavy impact.

Gouging + impact
// STAGE 02

Comminution

Crushers, mills, mantles, jaw plates, hammers, mill liners. The most concentrated wear in the mining cycle.

High-stress abrasion
// STAGE 03

Materials handling

Chutes, hoppers, transfer points, conveyor pans, screen panels. Sliding wear plus impact at transfer points.

Low-stress abrasion
// STAGE 04

Hydro & tailings

Pumps, slurry valves, cyclones, fan housings, thickener rakes. Fine particle erosion in flowing slurry.

[ 02 / Components ]

Component-by-component recommendations.

Eight of the highest-wear components in a typical operation, with the Syncore grade we'd specify and the reasoning behind it.

// 01
Bucket lips & GETDragline · shovel · loader
Heavy gouging from rock contact, shock loads at the dig face, occasional metal-to-metal at pin bores. Single-side worn surfaces with poor access.
Recommended SC-HF 850 Complex carbide
// 02
Crusher hammersHSI · VSI · roll crushers
High-energy impact combined with abrasive contact. Manganese cores need build-up, working faces need a hard wear-resistant overlay.
Build-up + overlay SC-HF MN13 + 720 Two-grade system
// 03
Crusher linersJaw · gyratory · cone mantles
Manganese castings under repeated compressive loading. Worn surfaces need restoration with a deposit that can work-harden in service like the parent material.
Recommended SC-HF MN13 Manganese
// 04
Mill liners & liftersSAG · ball · rod mills
Grinding media impact plus mineral abrasion. Cast components frequently rebuilt mid-life rather than replaced. Need overlay that survives mill rotation cycles.
Recommended SC-HF 720 Cr-carbide
// 05
Transfer chutes & hoppersPrimary · secondary transfer
High-tonnage sliding wear with periodic impact at fall points. Often the single largest wear-related shutdown driver in a mineral processing plant.
Recommended SC-HF 720 Cr-carbide overlay
// 06
Screen panels & sidesVibrating · banana · trommel
Continuous low-stress abrasion from material flow. Steel side panels and decks rebuilt repeatedly over the screen's structural life.
Recommended SC-HF 600 Martensitic
// 07
Slurry pumps & impellersTailings · process · cyclone feed
Fine particle erosion in flowing slurry. Impeller vanes and casings see continuous high-velocity wear that can't be paused for maintenance.
Recommended SC-HF 720 / 850 Carbide overlay
// 08
Soil-engaging toolsAugers · ripper teeth · grader edges
The most extreme gouging environment — rock-on-metal at the cutting edge. Demands the hardest deposit available and accepts brittleness for cut life.
Recommended SC-HF 980-W Tungsten carbide
[ 03 / Wear modes ]

Three failure mechanisms. Three answers.

Pick the wrong one and you're rebuilding sooner. Pick the right one and your component outlasts the next shutdown.

High-stress abrasion

Hard mineral particles crushed against the surface under load. The dominant wear mode in comminution — crushers, mills, screens.

// Specify Cr-carbide → SC-HF 720

Gouging & impact

Rock-on-metal contact at the cutting or dig face. Combines compressive impact with localised gouging — bucket lips, hammers, GET.

// Specify complex carbide → SC-HF 850 or MN13 + 720

Slurry erosion

Fine particles entrained in flowing fluid attacking surfaces at velocity — pumps, pipes, cyclones, fan blades. Smooth carbide morphology resists best.

// Specify smooth carbide → SC-HF 720 / 850

Send us the worn component. We'll send back a plan.

Photos of the wear pattern, your current consumable, and the throughput numbers — that's all we need to recommend a deposit, develop a procedure and supply a trial spool. No site visit required to start.
