// SC-HF Series · Flux-Cored Hardfacing

Hardfacing wires that defeat wear by design.

The SC-HF range is a complete carbide-spectrum portfolio — from tough martensitic build-up grades through chromium and complex carbide overlays to the ultimate tungsten carbide composite. Engineered around the deposit chemistry, not the wire.

[ 01 / Range ]

Five grades, one carbide spectrum.

Each SC-HF grade is engineered for a specific failure mode. Mix grades on the same component — build-up first, overlay last.

Grade Surface hardness Deposit chemistry Best applied to
SC-HF 600
Martensitic build-up
55 – 60 HRC Fe – 6Cr – 1.5C – 1Mo
Tempered martensite, fine carbide
Build-up under carbide overlays. Mild abrasion + moderate impact. Bucket bodies, dipper sides, conveyor pans.
SC-HF 720
Chromium carbide overlay
58 – 63 HRC Fe – 28Cr – 4C – 0.5Mn
Cr₇C₃ in austenitic matrix
Severe high-stress abrasion. The mining workhorse — chutes, GET, screen panels, mill liners, dragline buckets.
SC-HF 850
Complex carbide
62 – 67 HRC Fe – 25Cr – 5Nb – 4C – 1Mo
Cr₇C₃ + NbC primary carbides
Extreme abrasion with secondary impact. Niobium carbides resist fracture. Crusher hammers, sinter components, kiln rolls.
SC-HF 980-W
Tungsten carbide composite
68 – 72 HRC Fe – W carbide granules
Macro WC particles in tough matrix
The hardest deposit available. Gouging and cutting. Drill stabilisers, augers, soil-engaging tools, mill scraper edges.
SC-HF MN13
Austenitic manganese
18 → 55+ HRC Fe – 14Mn – 0.7C
Hadfield-style austenitic, work-hardens
Pure impact loading. Surface hardens under blows; core stays tough. Rail crossings, jaw plates, hammers, manganese castings.

Welding parameters that work first time.

Starting points for your WPS. Our engineers will refine these for your specific component, position and substrate.

SC-HF 720 — typical FCAW-S parameters

Wire diameter2.4 mm (3/32")
PolarityDC+ (DCEP)
Voltage28 – 32 V
Current280 – 360 A
Wire feed3.5 – 5.5 m/min
Stick-out (CTWD)25 – 35 mm
Travel speed25 – 35 cm/min
Deposition rate~ 5.0 kg/h
Max thickness2 layers (≈ 8 mm)
// Cr-carbide overlays develop check-cracking by design — these stress-relief cracks are normal and do not propagate into the substrate. Do not attempt to weld over them.

SC-HF MN13 — typical FCAW-S parameters

Wire diameter2.0 mm (5/64")
PolarityDC+ (DCEP)
Voltage24 – 28 V
Current200 – 280 A
Wire feed4.0 – 6.0 m/min
Stick-out (CTWD)20 – 30 mm
Interpass temp≤ 250 °C — keep cool
Pre-heatNone — quench between passes
Deposition rate~ 3.2 kg/h
// Manganese deposits must be kept cool to retain austenitic structure. Skip-weld pattern, water quench between passes, and never preheat.

Tested where it matters.

A typical result from an iron ore comminution circuit running SC-HF 720 against a competitor chromium carbide.

Triple the rebuild interval on a primary crusher chute.

A Pilbara iron ore client was rebuilding the upper section of their primary crusher transfer chute every 6 weeks at production tonnages of around 7,500 t/h. The wear surface was a competitor 5%C / 26%Cr carbide overlay applied to 12mm Hardox 450 backing plate.

Syncore's application engineers re-specified the deposit using SC-HF 720 (1.6mm, FCAW-S) at a tighter weave pattern with reduced heat input. The rebuild interval increased to 19 weeks at the same throughput, and the chute now exceeds shutdown intervals for the first time in the client's operating history.
